process past hurts, calm your nervous system, & unlock lasting relief

When you’ve experienced a traumatic event, a painful loss, or chronic childhood stress, time doesn’t always heal all wounds. Sometimes, your brain stores those painful memories in a way that keeps them completely raw and present. Years later, a sudden sound, an argument, or a stressful day can trigger a flood of panic, anxiety, or deep sadness—making you feel like you are living through the pain all over again.

If you feel trapped by your past, constantly on edge, or stuck in negative beliefs about yourself (like "I'm not safe" or "I'm not good enough"), EMDR Therapy can help.

At Renew Wellness, we specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This advanced, evidence-based therapy doesn’t just help you cope with your symptoms—it helps your brain naturally heal the root cause of your emotional distress. We provide specialized EMDR care for children, teens, and adults at our Gahanna and Pataskala offices, as well as virtually via Telehealth throughout Ohio.

What Exactly Is EMDR?

Picture
When a disturbing event occurs, the brain's natural ability to process information can get overwhelmed. The memory becomes "stuck" in your nervous system, complete with the original images, sounds, survival mechanisms, and physical tension.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (typically gentle, alternating left-to-right eye movements, taps, or tones) to stimulate both hemispheres of the brain. This mimics the natural psychological processing that happens during REM sleep.

By engaging both sides of the brain while briefly focusing on the distress, EMDR helps your brain re-file the memory correctly. The goal isn't to forget what happened but to remove the painful emotional charge attached to it. Once processed, you can remember the event without your body going into a full fight-flight-freeze-fawn response.

What Can EMDR Treat?

While EMDR is widely known as the gold standard for trauma and PTSD, it is also highly effective for an array of mental health struggles. Our certified clinicians use EMDR to treat:
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): From single-incident traumas (like a car accident or medical emergency) to complex, long-term childhood trauma.
  • Anxiety & Panic Attacks: Quieting the automatic, somatic (body-based) panic responses that talk therapy alone can't seem to reach.
  • Phobias & Deep Fears: Breaking down intense fears by addressing the initial event that triggered them.
  • Complicated Grief: Helping you process the agonizing, stuck emotions surrounding a painful or sudden loss.
  • Chronic Depression: Often, deep-seated depression is fueled by old emotional wounds, losses, or negative life experiences that left you feeling helpless. EMDR helps unlock and clear those underlying blocks, lifting the heavy blanket of depression.
  • Performance Anxiety & Low Self-Esteem: Rewiring deep-seated negative beliefs (such as "I am a failure" or "I am powerless") into positive, life-giving truths.

Our EMDR Formats: Weekly Sessions vs. EMDR Intensives

Picture
We recognize that every healing journey moves at its own pace. To fit your lifestyle and clinical needs, we offer EMDR in two highly effective formats:

Standard Weekly EMDR
Traditional 50-to-60-minute weekly sessions allow you to steadily build coping skills, map out your targets, and process your history step-by-step over several months.

Accelerated EMDR Intensives
If you want to experience deep relief without spending months in weekly therapy, we offer EMDR Intensives. This premium format condenses months of traditional therapy into extended, multi-hour sessions over a single weekend or a few consecutive days. Intensives are perfect for busy professionals, parents, or individuals looking for rapid, concentrated trauma recovery.
