Welcome all parts of who you are, resolve Inner battles, and Restore your Sense of Self
|
Have you ever said to yourself, "Part of me really wants to make a change, but another part of me is absolutely terrified"?
We all experience internal conflict. It’s completely normal to feel split between different thoughts, impulses, and emotions. You might have a part of you that perfectionistically drives you to succeed, another part that criticizes every move you make, and a hidden part that just feels overwhelmed, exhausted, and lonely. Sometimes, these internal voices get so loud and conflicting that you feel completely stuck, anxious, or disconnected from who you truly are. Internal Family Systems (IFS)—often called "Parts Work"—is a profoundly compassionate, evidence-based form of therapy that views the mind as a collection of different "parts," each with its own perspective, feelings, and history. At Renew Wellness, we use IFS to help you stop fighting your inner battles and instead guide your parts toward harmony, safety, and deep, lasting healing. We offer specialized IFS therapy at our Gahanna and Pataskala offices, as well as virtually via Telehealth across Ohio. |
What is Internal Family Systems?
|
IFS operates on a beautiful, life-changing premise: There are no bad parts. Even the parts of you that cause you pain—like a harsh inner critic, an intense people-pleaser, a burst of sudden anger, or an urge to numb out with food or scrolling—are not trying to sabotage you. In IFS, we understand that these parts took on extreme roles to protect you from deeper, underlying pain or past trauma.
Beneath all of these protective parts lies your Self—the core of who you truly are. Your True Self cannot be damaged or corrupted. It is naturally full of calm, compassion, curiosity, and confidence. The goal of IFS therapy isn’t to eliminate or suppress your difficult parts. Instead, we help you access your True Self so you can listen to your parts with curiosity, understand what they need, and help them unburden the heavy emotional weight they've been carrying since childhood. |
How do our Parts Operate?
|
It can be helpful to think of your mind as an internal family or a team. When everything is going well, the team works in harmony. But when you experience overwhelming stress, past hurts, or trauma, different members of the team have to step into extreme roles to protect you.
In everyday life, these inner parts usually show up in a few common ways:
