How did you begin your yoga journey? I began my yoga journey by attending classes at a local yoga studio in Chicago. I went to class 1 or 2 times per week and began to want more. The journey to my teaching career happened because I wanted to delve into the other aspects of yoga besides asana. I learned that yoga is so much more than the physical postures. It is a lifelong study in spiritual principles.
What classes do you teach and how would you describe your teaching style? I teach a style of hatha yoga called vinyasa which means “flow”. We synchronize the breath with the movement from posture to posture in a flow like manner rather than taking and holding a posture for an extended period of time.
What inspires you? Love inspires me. Kindness inspires me. Selfless service to others inspires me.
Who inspires you? All of my yoga students who became teachers themselves inspire me, as do those who practice regularly in spite of the hurly burley demands of life. Mahatma Gandhi inspires me.
What do you want your students to take away from your classes? A sense of peace that they didn’t have when they walked in the door. A sense of “oneness” or Union with the divine. A sense of accomplishment.
